the pad lady's playbook: how to build a movement people actually show up for

Most of us have sat through the purpose workshop. We've got the values on the wall, the CSR line in the annual report, the day of service in the calendar. And we've quietly wondered why so little of it moves anyone - least of all the people it's meant to.

Rochelle Courtenay has the opposite problem. In 2015 she read an article about women experiencing homelessness going without period products, ran a single collection drive in her Queensland suburb, and accidentally lit a fuse. A decade on, Share the Dignity is a national movement: thousands of volunteers, thousands of charity partners, millions of period products distributed, and a tax scrapped by a federal government that didn't see her coming. She built all of it with no head office mandate, no global budget, and no permission - the exact constraints most of us would call impossible.

What makes Rochelle worth an evening isn't just the impact she's created. It's the person behind it. She speaks openly about surviving domestic violence, raising two daughters as a single mum, battling self-doubt, and being told "you can't" more times than she can count. Rather than letting those moments define her, she used them as fuel to build something bigger than herself. She's living proof that ordinary people can create extraordinary change when they decide to back themselves - even before anyone else does.
